On 16 January a video conference, sponsored by the World Bank, was held bringing together the OGP Africa civil society groupings. A summary of the minutes can be accessed here: OGP Africa Minutes (summary). The meeting served largely as an update, though another meeting is being planned for February in order to take forward the proposed regional OGP meeting (projected for May 2013). In brief, the country updates are:
Liberia: Liberia is in the process of developing its OGP Action Plan. An OGP Steering Committee has, however, been established.
Ghana: Ghana is in the process of developing its Action Plan, although – given the elections – progress is slowing as new Ministers are appointed. An OGP Steering Committee which includes civil society representatives has been established.
Tanzania: Tanzania has submitted its Action Plan and a Steering Committee has been established. There is a focus on incorporating monitoring of its commitments within the African Peer Review Mechanism.
Kenya: Kenya has submitted its Action Plan, though there is no formal OGP Steering Committee. Inter-sectoral collaboration on the commitments still needs to happen.
South Africa: South Africa has submitted its Action Plan, though a Steering Committee including civil society has not been formally established. There has been discussion of having South Africa step down from the Steering Committee.
